With messaging applications being a part of our lives, the importance of privacy has started to increase, so WhatsApp is adding a more exciting characteristic to its app which is the “disappearing messages” feature.
Ahead of the release; new details have surfaced online revealing how the disappearing messages feature of WhatsApp will work. So today we will be talking more about this upcoming WhatsApp feature.
A screenshot of the disappearing message feature was recently discovered by WaBetaInfo. And also Wabetainfo claims that the Facebook-owned company will release this feature with one of the upcoming updates.
Things you need to know about the new WhatsApp feature
In the first version of the feature, users could decide the time for deletion of messages, but it seems that the company has changed this.
The company has also activated the frequently asked questions page about the new feature. The company announced that it will activate this feature on Android, iOS, Web and Desktop applications.
However, you won’t get an option to customize the time.
Once you enable “Disappearing Messages,” all the new messages will only expire after seven days. You cannot set time as to when you want them to vanish.
If people using the disappearing messages feature do not open your WhatsApp application within 7 days, the messages will disappear directly. However, the preview of messages may still appear in notifications panel.
“When you reply to a message, the initial message is quoted. If you reply to a disappearing message, the quoted text might remain in the chat after seven days. If a disappearing message is forwarded to a chat with disappearing messages off, the message won’t disappear in the forwarded chat,” Wabetainfo reported.
It is also being said that if you backup your chats before they disappear, then you will find them on Google Drive, if you plan to restore those disappearing messages from a backup, you won’t be able to find them as they will be deleted.
Strangely, WhatsApp will let users to forward or take a screenshot of the disappearing messages. You will also be allowed to save disappearing images and videos in your camera roll. For this, there will be save to Camera Roll option, which you have to manually enable.
