Touchpad of laptops can usually be turned off and on by pressing a key combination (FN+F3,F4, F5 or F7). The key usually has a picture of touchpad drawn on it but varies depending on system manufacturer.
If for any reason you formated / reinstall the Windows 8.1 Operating system of an Acer Aspire E5-511 you’d probably run into issues getting the touchpad to work even after installing of all drivers available and pressing FN+F7.
This post will show you the easiest and quick fix to the problem that everyone seems to overlook.
The problem is particular to windows 8.1 x64 alone because tests have shown Acer Aspire E5-511 touchpad works just fine on Windows 7 and 8 without hassle BUT BEWARE:
– Only Windows 8.1 x64 drivers are available on the Acer driver download page
– You would not be able to take full advantage of hardware resources available to Windows 8.1
HOW TO RESOLVE ACER ASPIRE E5-511 TOUCHPAD ISSUE:
Some suggestions on the Acer support forum claim that Installing Windows 8.1 in UEFI mode and first installing Intel NB_Chipset_M Baytrail-M driver then Intel I/O before any other drivers would fix the issue but i can’t verify that because a simple BIOS update fixed mine.
The driver download page has a BIOS Tab usually ignored but it fixed my Touchpad issue.
NOTE: BIOS update must be done with AC power charger connected to system and must not be interrupted by connecting or reconnecting any USB devices while in progress.
