Refurbished laptops sold as new by Konga merchant without prior disclosure?

A lot of Nigerians now do most of their shopping online for electronic gadgets, fashion wears and Household items  because of the trust gained by Online retail outlets such as Konga and Jumia and to avoid the usual stress associated with transporting goods bought from a store.

Unfortunately, not all online transactions go according to plan. A small percentage of purchases made online are either defective, different from original product advertised or fake thereby reducing customers satisfaction and trust in Online shopping.

We often announce new package deliveries to friends and share pictures of the item online, it’s only fair that we express dissatisfaction when things don’t go so well, so that issues can be identified beforehand, mitigated and lessons can be learnt by both seller and buyer.

Ordered new Laptop – Got refurbished laptop
On 6Th June i placed an order for an HP Pavilion 13-a013cl Touchscreen windows 8.1 Laptop. It’s portability makes it a good travel companion and the 360 curve allows the use of Only Touchscreen by hiding keyboard behind.
The Hardware specification of core i5, 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD also made this mouth watering offer almost too good to be true for the price of 125,000 only.

Delivery was impressive because item arrived within 5 days, but here’s what was displayed on the Laptop packaging.

Refurbished Laptop from Konga

If i needed to buy refurbished laptops or secondhand products, i would have ordered from Ogbunabali or found one on OLX. The seller’s honesty (DWIS) by not repacking the laptop is admirable but it would have been much appreciated if this was disclosed on the item description on Konga before purchase. (Yes, i checked again, no mention of item state)

Action to take for wrong / defective delivery
Customers are advised to return any item to Konga that does not meet the specification or description advertised.
This would be the logical thing to do but since i have previous experience with buying refurbished goods, i understand that a brand new laptop may sometimes be marked as refurbished by the manufacturer because of a minor replacement of failed component or manufacturing defect. Besides, i was already in love with the high specification.

HP Pavillion x360

Dear Konga, kindly see to it that your merchants clearly indicate the status or goods (brand new, refurbished etc) and maybe add a footnote to educate buyers what it means for an item to be marked as refurbished.

I’m happy with this purchase but needed to rant / bring this to your attention because if other items like TV, AC were marked refurbished, rest assured that i would have returned it.
