Twitter – the second largest social media / micro-blogging platform on the internet announced some changes and new features this week. Regular tweeps might have noticed but if you didn’t, here’s what’s new on twitter.
Twitter Favorite button replaced with Like Button
While reading tweets on your timeline, hashtag or search query, you’d usually come across some funny or inspirational tweet worth re-tweeting for others to see but sometimes that’s just not enough. Hitting the “Favorite” star-shaped button would also save the tweet to your list of favorites which can be viewed later by you or anyone else.
The “Favorite” – Star-shaped button that has been there since the beginning of twitter has been replaced with a Heart-shaped LIKE button on twitter for web, twitter mobile application and Vine.
There’s no cause for alarm, all your old favs still remain untouched.
The announcement made on Tuesday 3rd November, 2015 by Twitter’s product manager – Akarshan Kumar explained that the heart shape is a more expressive universal symbol that shows more emotions than the favorite button ever did.
We all know that the most common meaning of a heart shape is Love, so who you trying to fool Kumar?
Y’all had to make things a little bit more awkward than they already are by introducing the heart symbol.
This is a real deal breaker for some people who can’t see past the most common meaning of the heart shape and don’t like to get in-touch with their feelings.
Basically, twitter is saying: If you see something you like, Love it!

Introducing twitter polls
If want to get public opinion on any subject matter, creating a poll would be best way to do it.
The feature launched 21st October, 2015 allows anyone to vote on a 2-choice poll that can be created from the Compose tweet windows.
Over the past few days, I’ve seen funny polls on Nigeria Twitter asking silly questions like “Beans and rice or Rice and Beans”.
Can’t decide what colors to wear for work, meals to order, phone to buy, what to call your dog? create a poll and see what the “audience” say.
No matter the negative reactions and criticisms received by twitter from bloggers like myself and news media, one thing we can all agree on is that the new like button will be used more often than the former fav button and the poll will no doubt increase interactions on twitter.
– Nice going Tweeter.
