All version of Microsoft Windows 10 operating systems by default comes installed with the new Microsoft Voice assistant called Cortana. Only Windows 10 Education versions do not have Cortana installed.
The application can be useful for those with impaired vision, but it’s a burden for the rest of us who don’t need it because of it’s constant CPU usage while waiting for voice commands that will never come.
Microsoft Cortana cannot be entirely turned off or removed from the PC except edits to windows features or registry is done. In this post i’ll share with you tips i use to reduce it’s load on my the little CPU my Live streaming application (OBS) is trying to manage.
How to Disable Microsoft Cortana
- Press Windows 10 Start Menu and select the Gear icon to open Settings
- Scroll down to find Cortana and click the slider to off position for “Hey Cortana” “Keyboard Shortcuts” and “Lock Screen”
Check Task manager before and After, you would notice a 2 to 5% reduction in CPU usage. Every little counts if you’re PC is lagging or freezing up.
