How To check your BVN Number on your mobile phone

The Bank Verification Number commonly called BVN is a biometric identification system established by the Central Bank of Nigeria in alliance with Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) to curb or reduce illegal banking transactions in Nigeria. It is a modern security measure in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 1958 to reduce fraud in the U.S banking system.

This BVN uniquely identifies every customer across the Nigerian Banking industry using the individual biometric details. It is a requirement for operating a bank account in Nigeria as no withdrawal shall be made on accounts without validated BVN.

Checking your BVN number just got easier with the use of your mobile phone by dialing a simple code. This code applies to all network and all banks in Nigeria. This means that  the stress in involved in queuing up to check your BVN in banks has been drastically reduced.

Steps to check your BVN on your mobile phone

  • With the line registered on your bank account, dial *565*0#
  • Wait for some second and then the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) will reply by sending your 11-digit BVN to your mobile phone.
  • Charges of 20 naira might be applied for all networks.

This code can be used on all types of networks and phones even your small torch light phone will process this transaction.
You can also check your BVN number with your bank App. But it requires internet connection for this process.
